Fashion trunks die in a month because they were never a training suit

Week one, the holiday short looks sharp on the balcony. Week three, the seat has bagged, the colour has gone grey-green, and when he pushes off you can read the tile through the thigh. Nylon fashion trunks were cut for a hotel week, a mesh liner, and a photograph. Club chlorine spends elastane for breakfast.

A training jammer is a different object. Knee-length, drawcord, front lining, polyester built to sit in chlorinated water for a season. TYR, Speedo, and Arena sell that object as hours, or as chlorine resistance, depending on which shop you opened this morning. The print on the leg is decoration. The yarn is the product.

An hour claim is a lab line, not your pool

Brands test fabric against chlorine and then print a number, or they refuse to. I am quoting the shop pages as they stood on 23 August 2026. I am not scoring the jammers. A 9.4 out of 10 is how a shopping blog pretends it swam 300 hours in your plant room.

If TYR's 300+ were a straight calendar, six hours a week is a school year of fabric on paper. Your pool's chlorine is not their lab tank. The dryer is not in the test. Leaving the jammer wet in a kit bag overnight spends hours you will not get back. Treat the number as a ceiling the brand is willing to print. Buy the fabric family, rinse it, and rotate a second pair.

TYR still prints 300+. That is why I start there

Open the Durafast Elite men's jammer on tyr.com and the badge is still there: 300+ hours of performance, 100% chlorine proof, never fade, UPF 50+, antimicrobial lining. The product copy says the jammer is designed to withstand over 300 hours of intense training and competition. Fabrication on that lapped SKU is 92% polyester / 8% spandex, 230 GSM, championship cut, adjustable drawcord, fully lined.

The boys' version is the same argument in smaller waists. The solid boys' Durafast Elite jammer is sized 22 to 28, hits above the knee, and repeats the 300+ hour, chlorine-proof, colourfast line. TYR calls Durafast Elite its most durable textile: high denier poly fibre, circular knit, polyester strength with a little spandex so it still holds a body. "Chlorine proof" is marketing English for this yarn does not roll over in a week. It is not a spell. Tumble-dry it and you have donated the hours to the machine.

If you want one jammer and you want the brand to say how long, this is the shelf. Black first. A loud print does not add hours. It just shows the fade when they run out.

Speedo Endurance+ will not give you a number. Buy it anyway if you like PBT

Speedo's club jammer is the one everyone already owns, which is not an insult. The Endurance+ jammer on Speedo UK is still the classic: front modesty panel liner, internal drawcord, chlorine resistance, pilling resistance. Body 53% polyester, 47% PBT. UPF 40+ on that listing. Built to last is the phrase. There is no 300, no 200, no hour budget at all.

Speedo's own fabric technologies page still says Endurance+ is 100% chlorine resistant, exclusive to Speedo, quick drying, engineered to retain its shape swim after swim, with 20 times more fade resistance than conventional swimwear fabrics. The US Speedo fabric note is blunt on cadence: if you swim once a week or more, Endurance+ is the fabric. Club boys and men are that shopper. PBT is a polyester cousin. It is why the waistband still has a job in February.

I will not invent hours for them. If a forum says "Speedo lasts 300 hours," that forum stole TYR's line. Speedo's line is chlorine resistant, 20× fade, PBT blend. Enough to last the term if you rinse it. Not a score. A fibre.

Arena MaxLife Eco: chlorine-resistant, recycled, and not a fake 300

Arena's training jammer is MaxLife Eco now. The Stripes Swim Jammer on arenasport.com is the men's Performance line: highly chlorine-resistant MaxLife Eco, UPF 50+ UV protection, quick-drying, at least 50% recycled polyester from PET bottles, front lining, adjustable internal drawstring, 17.7 inch side, NCAA and NFHS compliant. Material listed as 100% polyester. GRS on the recycled content. That is a lot of true things. None of them is "300+ hours."

Men's jammer pages I opened do not print 300. Some MaxLife Eco training copy still does: a UK MaxLife Eco training SKU says the fabric "performs like new for over 200 hours of swimming in the pool," and calls it 100% chlorine resistant. That is Arena's hour line as of 23 August 2026 for the fabric family, not a men's jammer clock, and not a women's-suit review. Retailer text that says Arena MaxLife lasts 300 hours is the retailer.

Boys get the same yarn. The Draft Swim Jammer is the boys' MaxLife Eco cut, chlorine-proof in Arena's wording, UPF 50+, recycled polyester, front lining, internal drawstring, 36 cm side. If the squad already wears Arena, stay in the fabric.

Drawcord, lining, above the knee. That is the Tuesday cut

A jammer that lasts still has to stay up. All three brands put a drawcord or internal drawstring in the waist for a reason. Tie it. A waistband that has started to die will not be saved by hope. Front lining is modesty and a little structure; TYR's Elite lining is also sold as antimicrobial. Length is above the knee. TYR says its jammers hit above the knee. Arena's Stripes side is 17.7 inches. If the hem is flapping on the calf, you bought the wrong costume.

Fit is compressive, not a race bind. You should be able to kick a 200 on Tuesday without going numb. If you need two people and a plastic bag to get them on, you have wandered into tech-suit territory. Size by waist, not by the number on last year's pair after a growth spurt. A slack jammer makes more drag than a snug one, and it looks like you are losing the season in slow motion.

Boys grow out of the jammer before chlorine finishes it

A twelve-year-old in a growth spurt will split a 24 before Durafast has spent its 300 hours. That is not a fabric failure. Buy the youth cut: TYR boys' Elite in 22 to 28, Arena Draft, Speedo's boys' Endurance+ if your shop still has it. An adult 26 hanging off a small hip is extra cloth in the water.

When they jump a waist size, the old pair becomes the spare. A spare that still has hours left is how you stop buying fashion trunks on the way to a gala. Chlorine hours transfer. Waist size does not.

This is not a tech suit, and it should not try to be

A training jammer is Tuesday polyester. It is allowed to look a bit tired in March. A tech suit is a bonded, compressive race piece you keep for the meet that actually needs it. If you train in the race suit, you have spent the race. If you race in holiday trunks, you have spent the dignity. The split is best tech suits for the race wardrobe, and tech suits for age-groupers for when a child is even allowed one. This page will not steal those jobs.

Club galas in a textile jammer are normal. Championships in a baggy training pair because someone thought one suit does everything are how you swim slow and wonder why. Two jobs. Two suits. The cheap one is this one, and it still should not be fashion nylon.

Rinse, rotate, last the term

Arena's care line is the one I would print on the locker if I were allowed. Rinse immediately after use in non-chlorinated water. Do not leave the wet swimsuit in a bag. Do not bake a wet suit in a closed bag in sun. Wash with detergents for delicates. Air-dry away from heat. Handwash, no bleach, no tumble dry, no iron. That is on the Stripes jammer page. TYR and Speedo want the same physics even when they write fewer bullets.

Two jammers in rotation nearly doubles the calendar. One dries while the other swims. Six sessions a week on a single pair is how you arrive at Christmas with a waistband that shrugs. Rinse at the pool. Do not wring polyester like a tea towel. Do not hang it on a radiator.

Bin it when the seat bags, when wet fabric goes see-through, when the drawcord is the only thing keeping it on, or when the print has ghosted to a stain. Then buy the same fabric family again. Do not "upgrade" to holiday trunks because they were on offer by the till.
