What British Rankings actually is

Parents say British Rankings. The site says Results & Rankings. The URL is swimmingresults.org. Swim England’s membership FAQ is blunt: times achieved at a licensed meet are uploaded to the British Swimming Ranking, and you view them there. The home page (checked 17 August 2026) splits the job in two. Event Rankings is the ranked position of swims from the last 12 months for registered swimmers at licensed or accredited competitions. Individual Best Times is one person’s list — last 12 months, or all results. If last Saturday was the first English gala, start with your child’s first English gala. The four licence numbers live on Swim England licensed meets: Levels 1–4. This page is the database after the whistle.

SPORTSYSTEMS also ships a free Windows club rankings tool. swimmingresults.org says it can include non-licensed meets. That is a club-officer download for the club’s own lists — not a second copy of the public page you searched on Monday.

Licensed versus unlicensed — which times are supposed to upload

The licence is the stamp. No licence, no public ranking row — that is the working rule Swim England publishes for parents. I am not reprinting the 1–4 table. England 4 is still the gentle end; Ireland runs the other way — see Swim Ireland gala levels 1–5. This page only cares whether the pack printed a licence, and whether the promoter sent the file.

A licensed Level 4 time is supposed to go on Rankings. That is the Ireland trap in reverse: a typical Irish Level 1 stays in the club notebook. An unlicensed English splash — a friendly, a time trial the pack never licensed — stays club-recorded. Real to you. Not a ranking time. Check the licence number before you refresh the site at half seven on Monday.

How the file actually gets there

The promoter supplies the data. swimmingresults.org’s footer says so: if times are wrong or missing, contact the meet promoter. Swim England’s licensed-meets page (the October 2023 uploader note still sitting there in 2026) describes two pipelines. I will not pretend they are one SLA.

  • ✓Automated upload. Promoters with the newer licensed-meet key upload via resultsuploader.swimming.org (Hy-Tek HDR/MDF or SPORTSYSTEMS LENEX, plus licence number and meet key). Swim England says a file with no errors appears on rankings within one to two hours.
  • ✓Older / emailed process. Meets licensed on the previous form still send results to the Rankings team to be added by hand. Swim England says that process can potentially take days.
  • ✓Matching failures. Accepted swimmers show. Failed rows are often a mistyped date of birth or a small error in the name, so the membership number does not match. Swim England says the team will contact the promoter — they ask you to allow up to 72 hours before chasing them, or three working days if the whole file failed.

Clubs will tell you both: “it was up before we left the gallery” and “give it until Wednesday.” Both can be true. I am not inventing a third number. Believe the pack, then the promoter, then Rankings — in that order.

Membership number, not the briefing

Club Compete is what Swim England lists for Level 1–3 licensed opens. Club Train is for training and for competitions they class as low-level or exempt. Rankings matching is a number-and-name job. If the file cannot match a membership number, the swim can sit unattached even after a clean upload. “Ranked club” is a different OMS setting: which club name prints on the list when they belong to two clubs. It is not whether the time exists. Ask the club which category they hold. I am not reprinting the membership fees.

Why the page is empty on Monday

  1. Not uploaded yet. One to two hours if the automated uploader swallowed a clean file. Days if it is still on the email pipeline, or if the promoter has not pressed send.
  2. Name or date-of-birth mismatch. The time can be in the file and still fail to attach. Swim England names a mistyped DOB or a small error in the name. The promoter has the membership number the Rankings team needs.
  3. Unlicensed. No licence on the pack, no public ranking row. The club PDF can still be right.
  4. Wrong course table. Individual Best Times splits long course and short course. A 25m Saturday will not appear on the 50m list. Pools shorter than 50m are stored as short course. Converted times are maths, not a second swim — short course vs long course and personal best vs official vs converted.
  5. Wrong window. British Rankings is not Ireland’s season tab. Individual Best Times offers All Time or Last 12 Months. Event Rankings is last-12-months. A swim from 13 months ago vanishes from the 12-month view and is still on All Time. Championship qualifying windows are a different PDF.

Two more that look like a missing child: you searched the surname and opened a namesake, or website visibility is switched off. swimmingresults.org points members to the Swim England, Scottish Swimming, or Swim Wales login for contact details, website visibility, and data-protection choices. A DQ or a No Time seed does not invent an official row.

Do not chase Rankings for this

Meet Mobile going quiet is not a rankings failure. An unlicensed time trial is not a rankings failure. Log the swim. If it was licensed and still missing after the promoter’s window, email the promoter first. The site tells you they supply the data.

How a parent actually looks someone up

This is the live site on 17 August 2026, not a remembered screenshot. Layouts move. Trust the form in front of you.

  • ✓Open swimmingresults.org.
  • ✓Choose Individual Best Times — not Event Rankings, unless you want a county or national list.
  • ✓Set Period to All Time or Last 12 Months. Hunting last Saturday: All Time first.
  • ✓Enter the membership number or family name. The number wins. Smith in a 200-swimmer county is a long list.
  • ✓You should get two tables: long course and short course. Click the event name for every listed swim, not only the best.
  • ✓Still empty? Try All Time, the other course table, and a different spelling. Then ask the promoter whether the file went, and whether that swimmer matched.

Event Rankings (Last 12 Months) is the other door: course, stroke, age group, nationality (British, England, Scotland, Wales, the Crown dependencies), then region or club. It shows 100 names at a time. That is a ranking list, not a child’s diary. Keep the Swim England number in your phone. If they went in as NT, today’s official clock is personal best number one in that event and course — once it exists. Write it whether Rankings has caught up or not.

Rankings is a filter, not the log you own

Rankings is a filter of licensed, matched, uploaded swims. Unlicensed Saturdays never enter. Mismatched names sit unattached. Last 12 Months hides last year’s county swim. The short-course table hides the long-course PB. A privacy choice can hide the profile. Even when Level 4 is supposed to upload, Rankings is still not the archive. British Rankings is a filter of licensed, matched files. It is not Meet Mobile, not the club PDF, and not the list you still open in March.

Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland

British Rankings is a Great Britain database. swimmingresults.org’s footer points at Aquatics GB, Swim England, Scottish Swimming, and Swim Wales privacy policies, and Event Rankings lets you filter nationality to England, Scotland, Wales, and the Crown dependencies. Swim Wales’ competition licensing regulations (from July 2024) treat publication of results via the British Rankings Database as part of a licensed meet, with results to be submitted within five working days. Scottish Swimming’s regulations (Issue 162, December 2023) send Level 1 and 2 computer files to Scottish Swimming and Aquatics GB for AGB Swim Rankings; Level 3 results go to participating clubs and are not required to be sent to the licensing body. An older Aquatics GB note said the database held English and Welsh licensed meets plus Scottish Level 1 and 2 — treat that as history, and believe this year’s pack. Usually the promoter has not uploaded yet, the file failed to match a membership number, name or date of birth, the gala was unlicensed, you are on the short-course table looking for a long-course swim, or Individual Best Times is set to Last 12 Months. A clean automated upload can show in one to two hours; the older email process can take days. If the time is wrong or missing after a licensed meet, swimmingresults.org tells you to contact the meet promoter.
No. Meet Mobile is a live heat-sheet and results app some English opens publish from Hy-Tek. Times there are unofficial until officials have finished, and plenty of Level 4 club championships never publish there at all. British Rankings at swimmingresults.org is the licensed-meet database after the promoter uploads. A club PDF in the email is the host’s results file. None of those three is the family log you still own in March.

Click an event name to see every listed swim in that event, not only the best.
